The tradition of community support runs deep at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX). We’ve earned a reputation for caring about Texas communities by demonstrating a commitment to help build healthy communities and create long-term value over the last eight decades through volunteerism.
The essential components of that value are achieved through several outreach initiatives, including:
- Matching Dollars program – For every volunteer hour that a BCBSTX employee spends with a qualified nonprofit organization (also known as a community partner), that organization can receive $20 per hour, up to a total of $2,000 annually. In 2013, 61 community partners received a total of $62,600 in matching dollars.
- Blue Corps℠ Volunteers – In 2013, employees made us proud by demonstrating a caring spirit. Over 1,285 Blue Corps volunteers were active in Texas communities and donated over 16,857 personal volunteer hours to support hundreds of causes throughout the state.
- Business Purpose Events – One of the initiatives introduced in 2013 that heightened the spirit of volunteerism at all levels was the opportunity to team up with community partners in what Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) calls a “purpose activity.” The word purpose is used to describe these outreach activities because they align with our company purpose, which is: To do everything in our power to stand with our members in sickness and in health.
