Healthy Kids, Healthy Families®
Healthy Kids, Healthy Families (HKHF) began as a three-year initiative designed to improve the health status of at least one million children. Now a signature program of our organization, HKHF is part of an ongoing commitment to invest in and partner with nonprofit organizations that offer sustainable, measurable programs to reach children and their families. The initiative is part of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas’ (BCBSTX) commitment to help stem the rising tide of obesity and related chronic conditions (like diabetes) to help children and their families get healthy and stay healthy.
During the program’s initial three-year period, BCBSTX has awarded $4.9 million to more than 60 charitable organizations. In 2013 alone, 38 community partners were awarded more than $1.6 million. We are pleased to continue our support to organizations committed to the health and well-being of local communities across our state.
In the following pages, we’ve highlighted a few examples of the alliances we have formed by focusing on four key pillars that are the foundation of the HKHF initiative:
- Physical activity,
- Preventing and managing disease, and
- Supporting safe environments.
