Be Covered Texas

The Be Covered Texas campaign, which is fully funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and supported by various community and civic groups, focuses on helping the state’s uninsured population understand how the new health care law would impact them and what steps they need to take to gain access to individual health insurance via the online health care marketplace or exchange. The campaign works with community partners to provide user-friendly information and on-the-ground guidance with the ultimate goal of helping Texans prepare for the enrollment period.

The Be Covered Texas campaign recruited over 150 community partners statewide including established community groups, civic organizations, schools, religious institutions, and doctors to offer educational materials and guidance in both English and Spanish to help Texans navigate the changes ahead.

Two highlights of the campaign were the Care Fairs – free community health events that provided opportunities for families and individuals to access a wide-range of free services including information about the new health care law, flu shots, health screenings, healthy food giveaways, and direct access to local community resources through Be Covered Texas partners. Care Fairs were held in Houston and Dallas, attracting more than 14,000 attendees.

The Be Covered Texas campaign also includes a website, www.becoveredtexas.org, which provides information about insurance coverage, benefits plan options, important requirements of the new law, and guides Texans through the enrollment process.
