Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) presented the Witte Museum with a $750,000 grant for the HEB Body Adventure. The HEB Body Adventure will provide engaging experiences for the 400,000 annual visitors to the Witte Museum from the San Antonio and South Texas communities. The adventure will provide opportunities for multigenerational learning and engagement in an environment that promotes movement and physical activity, while delivering scientifically accurate information on nutrition, physiology, anatomy and life balance. It was developed with a consortium of public health, medical, retail, education and museum professionals to address unhealthy living practices including sedentary lifestyles and super-sized junk food.
Cesar E. Chavez March
BCBSTX was a proud sponsor of the 2013 Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice in San Antonio where employee volunteers distributed complimentary water to marchers along the three-mile route. Many members of the staff also joined the march. The march is an annual community celebration of the legacy of Cesar E. Chavez, an American role model, who empowered and improved the lives of the poor and underserved in our society. Our participation and sponsorship is a tribute to Cesar E. Chavez and his ability to positivity impact the Latino community and the nation by working for justice in peaceful and inspiring ways. BCBSTX also sponsored the Cesar Chavez Education and Legacy Fund, which raised over $20,000 for local scholarships as a continued commitment to outreach and serve the Latino community.
