BCBSTX and Loveisrespect partnered to educate young adults and professionals in the field about how to get young people to “start talking” about healthy relationships by holding a Start Talking Institute at BCBSTX headquarters. Loveisrespect is the ultimate source of support for young people, helping them learn how to avoid abuse and build healthy relationships. Thirty youth organizations participated in the institute and received intensive training on the innovative Start Talking curriculum.
The Family Place
In 2013, the Family Place opened its Safe Campus Clinic, which was supported with a grant from BCBSTX. The Family Place empowers victims of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling and skills that create independence while building community engagement and advocating for social change to stop family violence. The onsite clinic was staffed with a registered nurse and volunteer physicians from the community, providing essential health care services for women and children victims of family violence. Estimates project that the clinic will provide medical services to 270 women and 570 children annually.
