Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) collaborated with over 373 community partners in 2013, including the March of Dimes Walk for Babies, Susan G. Komen Dallas Race for the Cure and many others.
The following are a few examples of activities sponsored by BCBSTX:
- American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund – BCBSTX made a donation when an explosion destroyed many buildings in the town of West, Texas, last spring and offered to work with the Care Van® to make on-site vaccines, especially tetanus vaccines, available to residents, first responders, and rescuers.
- Hard Hats for Little Heads is a program of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) which promotes safety for kids. Based in Austin, more than 30,000 kids and parents, many in underserved areas of Texas, will benefit from BCBSTX’s collaboration with TMA to provide children with a bike helmet along with education about the importance of wearing a properly fitted helmet every time they ride a bicycle, skateboard, or scooter.
- Texas CASA – BCBSTX partners with the CASA community, which serves as a voice for abused or neglected children through the power of volunteer advocacy and change in the child protection system. In 2013, BCBSTX supported CASA’s giving campaign and Texas Champions luncheon.
- Texas Health Institute (THI) – BCBSTX supported THI’s Annual Southern Obesity Summit, which develops strategies that demonstrate an impact on obesity prevention and gathers stakeholders and experts who share innovative ideas and best practices. THI’s mission is to improve the health of Texans and their communities.
